University Libraries End of the Semester Destress-tival

Eclipse

The University Libraries is partnering with groups across campus to provide a series of destressing events during spring finals week.

Beginning on Monday, April 29 from 12 – 1 p.m., Paws on Campus will be bringing therapy dogs into the library. Come say hi to some furry friends in the Carlson Library Main Event Space (CL1005).

Later on Monday evening, the Office of Recreational Services will be hosting a round of Glow Yoga in the Carlson Library Main Event Space. Glow Yoga is a fun, glow-in-the-dark, beginner-friendly, specialty yoga class filled with neon lights, funky glow accessories, and a mind, body, and spirit relaxation. Glow Yoga is from 5:30 – 6 p.m.

Finally, the night cap is the ever-popular Juice House Study and Slice Night, held on the 2nd floor of the Carlson Library from 8 – 11 p.m. Students who study an hour at Carlson Library will get a free slice of pizza. To participate, download the Juice House app for iOS or Android. On the homepage, scroll down to “Event Info” and you’ll be taken to the online order form where you can choose what time you will be checking in and place your pizza slice order.

The Destress-tival continues Tuesday, April 30 with Gentle Yoga from 2 – 2:30 p.m. in the Carlson Library Main Event Space. Gentle Yoga is an individual practice where all judgment, competition, and expectations are let go. The focus is internal, connecting the breath to the mind and body through various yoga poses, stretches, and meditation to improve flexibility, mindfulness, and relaxation.

Tuesday evening the classic Relaxation Station makes its comeback with the Carlson Library Main Event Space set up with coloring pages, board games and puzzles for students to use from 3:30 – 11 p.m.

The Destress-tival concludes on Wednesday, May 1 with our annual Star Wars Trivia Contest celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace at 12:30 p.m. in the Carlson Library Main Event Space. There will be prizes and snacks!

The Jesup Scott Honors College and Ritter Planetarium are then hosting two sessions of “Chill with the Cosmos,” at the planetarium. Come and sit back, listen to some good music, and clear your head while watching a custom light display. Shows will be at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.

The night ends with the Division of Student Affairs hosting “Pizza with the VP” on the 2nd floor of Carlson Library from 6 – 7 p.m. Come and enjoy a slice of pizza with Dr. Sammy Spann, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students.

National Library Week
National Library Week 2024

The theme for National Library Week 2024, “Ready, Set, Library!,” promotes the idea that in our always-online world, libraries give us a green light to something truly special: a place to connect with others, learn new skills, and focus on what matters most.

Sticking with the racing theme, the University Libraries is partnering with the University of Toledo Formula SAE Racing team for a unique display in the atrium of the Carlson Library.

Additionally the University Libraries will be debuting the newest editions to our annual READ posters, featuring UToledo students, staff, and faculty.

Heart of Any University
The Heart of Any University:
50 Years of the William S. Carlson Library
In case you missed it the first time, "The Heart of Any University: 50 Years of the William S. Carlson Library" is now on display in our newly renovated North Gallery on the first floor of Carlson Library.

This exhibit, from the Canaday Center for Special Collections, contains photographs, artifacts, and documents relating to the history of Carlson Library in honor of the library's 50th anniversary.

The exhibition is divided into five chapters:

  • An overview of the history of the University of Toledo Libraries;
  • A look at the tenth university president, William S. Carlson, for whom the library was named;
  • The path to development of what was the largest and most expensive building on main campus at the time;
  • Commemoration of the men and women who have stepped in to lead the library since its inception in 1917; and
  • An exploration of the work of the Friends of the Library group, which was to benefit the library in any manner possible.
    In addition, several cases will display selections of rare books, many of which were acquired through the help of the Friends.

We are proud to be an OhioLINK Logo OhioLINK Library.
